Dyno Data Map

This map provides a visual representation of climbing routes at my nearby climbing gyms. I took the details about their rope climbing routes and organized them in a way that illustrates their spatial arrangement. The map emphasizes key information such as route color, height, difficulty, climbing type, and the number of ascents for each route.

Reading the Map

Creating a visually clear representation of the collected data was a challenge due to the numerous data points on this map. Each colored bar on the map represents a climbing route, and the height of the bar corresponds to the route's height. A dot at the top of the bar indicates one person who recorded climbing that route, while the shape at the bottom denotes the style of climb (top rope, lead, or auto-belay). The alphanumeric combination near the bottom provides information on the route's difficulty level.

Process

Creating this map involved conducting research on the subject. I spent a day at the climbing gym, armed with pen and paper, where I took detailed notes on all the necessary information. Additionally, I approached the staff with specific questions that weren't covered on the route labels, and they graciously provided answers. Once I had gathered all the information, the next step was to organize it systematically in a way that made sense for the map.
