Wayne State Housing

In my role as a marketing assistant for Wayne State, my primary responsibility involved strategically thinking and designing within the framework of the university's identity. Specifically, I focused on creating promotional materials for the housing department that effectively communicated the welcoming atmosphere synonymous with Wayne State.

Directional Signage

At Wayne State, the Student Center serves as a central hub for student activities, providing spaces for studying, dining, and socializing with friends. Recognizing the need for an updated map to facilitate navigation within the building, I was assigned the task of designing it. The new map aims to streamline and modernize the representation of rooms on each floor, offering clear and concise directions to guide students and visitors to their intended destinations within the Student Center.

Friends and Family

During my time with Wayne State Housing, I had the wonderful opportunity to create the "Family & Friends" project from start to finish. Our goal was to make the experience of waiting for students during move-in more enjoyable for their family and friends. We came up with the idea of creating special cards that loved ones could fill out and give to the students once they were settled into their rooms.

To make it even more fun, I designed a cheerful and welcoming look for the project. The visuals are bright, playful, and full of warmth, aligning perfectly with the friendly and inviting atmosphere of Wayne State during welcome week. The booth we set up during move-in had eye-catching posters and plenty of cards for everyone to enjoy.

Process

The aim of this project was to create an interactive and entertaining element for the family and friends of students moving into housing. While ensuring that the colors reflected the Wayne State identity, infusing a friendly and welcoming feel into the overall event identity was crucial. After numerous iterations and sketches, we settled on typography and designed stickers that bring a charming and friendly vibe to the project.

Social Media

As a marketing assistant, one of my responsibilities was managing WSU Housing's social media presence. This involved establishing a posting schedule and creating diverse content for various accounts. Content generation encompassed tasks such as capturing and editing photos, designing infographics for informative posts, and researching campus activities to promote. The goal was to craft posts that were not only welcoming and encouraging but also informative, providing valuable information about WSU's housing to anyone viewing the social media content.

Orientation Signage

Playing a significant role in marketing for WSU Housing involved engaging with potential students during open houses. To draw students to Housing's table, I designed a tri-fold poster that provided information on various dorming options while radiating a happy, exciting, and welcoming vibe.

These posters, displayed alongside informational handouts about housing and Wayne State's offerings, aimed to consistently convey the theme of providing a warm and inviting environment. The use of circles in the design added a calming and welcoming touch for viewers.

Table Tents

Placed strategically on tables in the Student Center, these small tent posters were designed to catch the eye and entice visitors into exploring the content. With a focus on promoting student housing, the table tents provided just enough information to guide individuals on how to learn more about the various housing options without overwhelming them with excessive details. The intention was to create a visually engaging and informative display that sparked interest without being overly complex.
